my 11

Brian McBride

Landon Donovan

Bobby Convey Claudio Reyna DaMarcus Beasley

Pablo Mastroeni

Eddie Lewis Eddie Pope Oguchi Onyewu Steve Cherundolo

Kasey Keller

Then the usa still has Johnson, Dempsey & O’Brien to throw at the teams. I really wonder though if Beasley will stay at his natural left and Dempsey will get the start on the right.

I am sure my lineup will change before the opening.

Thirty minutes and counting. Watching the pregame show and opening ceremony from my comfortable cubicle, ah the wonders of a technologically equipped advertising office.

We've got about a total of 24 TV's lining our four main hallways, I went through and changed most to the game, left a couple for the French Open. Props to Federer. That boy can play.

Game here at work, difficult to fathom that I'm stuck here for the opener, yet reconciling that I actually get to watch though. Then out early and heading to the bar for the 3 o'clock game. Then up in the morning for pancakes and England Paraguay. This is my life for the next month. Call it what you will, I call it extremely enjoyable. How far can England go? Far I hope, I'm really pulling for the boys.

One of the great things about being a fan of soccer in the united states, and by this I don't necessarily mean a fan of the united states, but being a fan in general, there is this wonderful love for the game that comes from the sheer joy of watching so many international club games and not having anyone to particularly root for, that is no real home team. It's my feeling this a major source for the passion american fan's have for the game, much of the competition is taken out of it. We're never really heartbroken by any particular defeat, even that of our own team. We just love watching with a couple beers in our hats and cheering with the rest of the gang.

A few fantastic books to read:

The Thinking Man's Guide To The World Cup: a collection of essay's on all 32 countries playing this year, including Nick Hornby on England, and Dave Eggars on the US.

How Soccer Shapes The World: an in depth look at the politics and economics surrounding international and club teams, how the IRA funded local teams and hence was supported by those loyal hooligans...

Let the games begin!

If Obrien isn't in the satrting line up or Maestroeni is they won't win a game.

If O'brien is healthy, I am with you, but can he go 90? Why not bring him in for the second half?
