I will be leaving Korea in about one month. I don’t have my plane ticket yet. I haven’t packed any boxes. My term at Yonsei ends June 16th, will begin the move then.

Been a change in my poetry. words no longer hug the left margin. out of necessity, they have begun to float. the poems would not work otherwise, but it was not a decision I made. just began pressing the space bar and the poems began to be poems. figure the floating has to do with my floating. That these poems might be closer to where I am, and that was the intention of this project when it began. So the manuscript is at Octopus, but the real manuscript is just starting to take shape.

Now I am going to watch South Park and eat an apple.

Former Berkeley student known as "Naked Guy" dies in jail

I just got home and ate a muffin

When does life get more important? Today, Bears dropped it 6-4. Thing is, I got in batting practice, and game. Taught my friend the basics of keeping score. Always ask, when you are teaching keeping score, “are you bored?” This question is also used when talking about poetry. I know 100 times more about baseball than I know about poetry. What do you know most about?

I am ready for tomorrow’s game. go bears!

Seems that most of the time lately this blog has been devoted to the Bears and baseball. Today is no different. Bears game this evening. Bears game Sunday afternoon. I think Jamshil stadium is my favorite place in Seoul. There is room to stretch out. They sell peanuts. they sell beer. They sell squid. I don’t like the jerky squid.

This last fall I entered a few book contests. Figured it was the way to do things. That winning one of those things would help secure a university teaching job. Don’t know that I want one of those things. Really have trouble imagining myself in the states for more than a few months. Have added Greece to the list of possible next stops. But also, feel that one of these prizes also distances me from my book. Whole Milk is beautiful. Would I have as much input with a university press? Would I trust them as much as I trust Scott? Anyway, things are changing. Priorities are moving in a direction I feel better about. If Yale comes calling, I won’t say no, but I wouldn’t spend my 20 or so bucks on any of these guys again.

I hate it when I don’t win contests. Serves me right for entering. But damn, another contest without even being a semifinalist. Tell me I got a good read.

The Bears

Plenty of reasons to read the Radish King blog. Today, for instance, it reminded me of Mother’s Day. Sent off an e-mail. So all is good.

Going to a baseball game with Marcus this afternoon. They used to serve OB, now they serve Cass. No big deal really. last time I went the beer was so cold. one was a bit slushy. coldest beer in town. good baseball (I’d say a low minor league level), cheerleaders, 70*, shade. Remind me again, why am I leaving?

Last night I yelled something to the band. Do you remember what it was?

One time, at band camp, I argued with Samuel R. Delany.

Horse Less just took two from the 33 times before sunrise collection

Went to the US embassy yesterday. had to get a document notarized. First had to push a button and guard opened door. then through metal detector and please put yr phone and keys, and yes, yr binoculars in the cubby to retrieve when you leave. Then into room and left door and take a number. two hours and you get to talk to the happy lady at the counter. how I miss the dmv. We can not notarize this. we have never seen the form. but it is a federal gov form. we haven’t seen it. we can stamp this piece of paper instead. so they stamp that piece of paper instead but only after I get another 45 min older waiting for the supervisor to tell me that we can stamp the other piece of paper instead. Should be 40 bucks lighter but I forget to pay so pissed and anxious am I. back out the door. retrieve binoculars and keys and cell phone. back through front door and wall of riot police though no rioters. I want to incite, but my Korean is poor. look back at the US compound. walls and barbed wire. ugly intimidating building. then into a cab quickly.

Going to see a baseball game. about 70* and blue skies. Doosan Bears are home this weekend. Doosan used to be called OB. OB is a right ok lager. Going to get my drink on. might eat some dried squid. I think OB beer has replaced Cass as my beer of choice.

a post just below the one below lasted about 3 minutes. did anyone catch that?

John Cage's "As Slow as Possible."

A group of musicians and town boosters has given the title a ridiculously extreme interpretation, by stretching the performance to 639 years.
